Biography

OLIVIER TALPAERT DOUBLE BASS SOLO

Born in France in 1970, he began his musical studies at the age of 6. He began in the class of Jean-Loup Dehant at the Conservatoire National de Région de Douai in 1980. He successfully obtained the gold medal in music theory in 1983.

He was presented the same year by his teacher to the Kingdom of Music competition, where he participated in the regional selections and then obtained the Honorary Prize in the national competition. He performed on this occasion at the concert of the winners as a soloist with the Nouvel Orchester de Radio France (concert broadcast on France Musique and France Culture).

Gold medal in double bass in 1984, he attended the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and at the age of thirteen entered the class of Jean-Marc Rollez where he obtained three years later, a first prize and then perfected with the greatest soloists such as Klaus Stoll, Wolfgang Guttler…

After having been engaged as solo double bass with the Orchester du Capitole de Toulouse, under the direction of Michel Plasson, he was nominated by competition, principal double bass of the Orchester de Picardie in 1993.

In 1994 and 1995, he had the opportunity to perform numerous times as a soloist with the Orchester de Picardie, under the direction of Louis Langrée, or his interpretation of Per Questa.

In August 1994, he won first prize for classical interpretation at the Concours International d´Avignon.

Since 1995, he has performed regularly as a soloist, and has performed with orchestra, Bootsini’s Concerto No. 2, opera arias by Catalini, Puccini, Verdi, Bootsini’s Tarentella, Passione Amorosa for two double basses and Bootsini’s orchestra. In 2005, he premiered with the Orchester de Picardie Montagnes Russes (his own piece, arranged by David Walter).

Along with his activity as an orchestral musician, he is often invited by renowned chamber music groups.

The orchestral solos follow one another over the years and among the many CDs recorded with the Orchester de Picardie, the success is memorable after the release of the CD dedicated to Ginastera with its two orchestral solos reputed to be very difficult, Variaciones concertantes and above all the formidable solo in the Concerto for strings.

In 2009, Olivier Talpaert then performed works from the violin repertoire and played as a soloist Variations Moise by Paganini and Czardas by Monti, he was very successful on this occasion.

 

 

He performed as a soloist in 2012 with the super-soloist violinist of the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra, in the interpretation of the famous Grand duo by Giovanni Bootsini, an essential work in the solo double bass repertoire.

In 2016, he performed as a soloist with the Orchester de Picardie, under the direction of Arie Van Beek, the koussevitzky concerto, and once again highlights the double bass as a solo and lyrical instrument.

As a soloist with orchestra Olivier Talpaert puts Fauré’s Elegy to his repertoire, which he records with the Orchester de Picardie under the direction of Pierre Bleuse.


Arie Van Beek offers him in 2021 to record as a soloist with the Orchester de Picardie the concerto for double bass by Jules Matton.

At the same time, Olivier Talpaert begins building his website (www.olivier-talpaert.com).
